What you need to know when selecting an HVAC contractor:
- Will they perform a heat-gain/heat-loss calculation
- Did they explain what precisely designed ductwork will they install
- Will the joints of the ductwork be sealed with UL-181 tape or mastic
- Do they offer a guarantee
- Did they explain what parts and labor the warranty covers and for how long
- Do they provide 24-hour emergency service
- Are they NATE certified (North American Technician Excellence) certified? NATE certified technicians are skilled third party certified professionals
- Are they using an outdoor thermostat? RSE recommends using an indoor smart stat instead of an outdoor stat.
Why choose electric heat:
- Electric heat is versatile: Heating & Cooling equipment can be placed anywhere- in the attic, in basement or in a closet.
- Heat pumps work with electric or fossil fuel back-up heat.
- Electricity is the safest, cleanest, and most cost-efficient fuel available. There are no tanks to fill, no chances of explosions and you pay for electricity only after it has been used.
- Heating with an air source heat pump or geothermal heat pump is the most efficient way to heat. Geothermal heat pumps operate at an efficiency rating of 300% - 400%. Efficiency ratings of an air-source and add on heat pump ranges from 170% -190%.
